Now it seems that some new changes in Fortnite may involve taking ideas from the popular hidden identity game Among Us with a new game mode.

The Spy Within is live now and will change every couple of days. When it does, it will feature variants of the mode made by community members DolphinDom, KKSlider, Bunni_, Wert, Blanky, jstKamui, MackJack, Ritual and Snownymous.

If you've played Among Us, well, it's basically that. Each match starts with two teams with set player counts: eight Agents, and two Spies. You only know your own team. The Agents want to complete enough objectives to win, while the Spies want to eliminate all of the Agents before that happens. They'll need to be sneaky, because players can call meetings to share their information and vote on one suspected Spy to eliminate. If the Spies are tricky enough, they may even be able to convince Agents to do their dirty work for them and vote out own teammates.

That's not where the Among Us similarities - itself a variation on the party game Werewolf - end. As you can probably guess by this point, the Agents are tasked with completing various objectives on the map to earn gold coins to win. None of the players can speak to each other during the game unless a meeting is called, at which point voice chat can be used to discuss who may or may not be a spy. During a meeting, players can vote someone out and that person will be eliminated.

It is hard to tell if Fortnite will be able to pull any players from Among Us to join this game mode instead, if that was ever even the intention in the first place. Among Us has made the jump to Switch and will soon come to the Xbox Game Pass, so it is probably the better business strategy to keep fans loyal to the game since a new and incredibly popular game is making the jump to consoles. Hopefully, fans will be able to enjoy The Spy Within mode for its own unique merits.
